There is no end to the fun things
to do in Baja. Mountain bike along coastal and scenic
desert single-track trails. Glide along clear blue waters
in a sea kayak. Snorkel among colorful tropical fish. Activities below are included in you vacation unless
noted otherwise.
Mountain Biking:
We have a fleet of brand-new Specialized Rockhopper
Comp FS mountain bikes for your enjoyment. We offer
guided rides and mountain bike clinics. Make sure to
bring your own bike shorts, gloves, shoes, and clipless
pedals if desired. (If you wish to ride with your child
on board, please also bring a child seat and helmet.)
Sea Kayaking:
We have a fleet of sea kayaks available for guests use
during portions of the day. Tandem kayaks also available.
Snorkeling:
We have a range of snorkeling gear available for check
out. Check with our staff for the best snorkeling spots.
Beach Bonfire:
Every Wednesday evening Vela will host a beach bonfire
in front of the Playa del Sol. If you play a musical instrument, feel
free to bring it along.
Tennis:
There are decent tennis courts located at the Hotel
Palmas de Cortez and available for guest use. Please
note that the court does have some cracks in the pavement.
Bring your own racquet and balls.
Guided day trips and hikes to
scenic areas:
If the wind happens not to blow on any given day, the
Vela staff loves to organize various excursions. These
include a range of endeavors from hikes in the coastal
mtn. ranges, snorkeling trips to Punta Pescadero, surfing/boogieboarding
trips to the Pacific side, shopping trips to San Jose
del Cabo. You never know what's next at Vela Baja...but
you're never bored!
Volleyball:
From time to time the Vela staff will organize a good
healthy game of beach volley ball. Hey, it wouldn't
be a complete beach without a little volleyball. For
you volleyball pros, there is a more competitive 2 on
2 court located just up the beach.
Morning stretch class:
Every weekday morning we offer a stretch class to help
loosen up those sore bones. You'll be surprised how
popular it is. Hosted by Mateo, yogaman. It's the best way to start the day.
Video nights:
Windsurfing Videos and other films will be shown during the week. Please check bulletin board for times. We will also film you sailing during the day and air the video at night. Good laughs for all. Best wipeout receives free Margarita.
These popular activites are offered for an additional fee by companies that we've learned to trust.
 Dolphin swimming
Since February 2006 Cabo Dolphin Center has been making dreams come true. If you have swimming with dolphins on your 'things to do before I die' list, take a morning or a light wind day to visit Cabo for this unforgettable experience. The center is exceptionally well run and you'll get plenty or time in the water with the dolphins. Children as young as 5 can participate so if you're looking for an exciting family outing while in Los Barriles, this is hard to beat. Scuba Diving:
Scuba Diving can easily be arranged through Vista Sea
Sport, a local American-owned operation. Just ask our
Baja staff how to contact them in Los Barriles. Dive
sites are as close as a few miles away. They start at
$75 for 2 dives and include weight belt and tank. Bring
your own BCD and regulator or rent their excellent quality
equipment for $20/ day. Vela can supply snorkel, mask
and fins, rent from Vista or bring your own. A resort
course as well as a full PADI certification course is
also available. Certification cards are required for
dive tours unless you are doing a resort course.
Horseback Riding:
Check with the Vela staff to make arrangements for
horseback riding. You may
need to arrange your own transportation via taxi.
Quad Runner Rentals:
Explore the arroyos, mountains and beaches on a rugged off-road vehicle. You'll find spectacular rock formations and water falls just outside of Los Barriles.
Deep sea Sport Fishing:
It's no secret that this area has the best Marlin fishing
in the world! Boats are available for hire every morning.
