No words would need to be said, cause Vela in Cabarete itself says it all!... But I will state the most important point to me: if it hurts, it's probably worth it! Learning to windsurf is sometimes frustrating when you are used to excel in every sport you do, but when every teachment Robert gives you, every little detail you've learned come together step by step to your mind, then, you really get addicted to it, and it flies fast on the water!
But Vela purpose is not only a place to learn windsurf: it is mainly the best spot I travelled to so far to really grow up, exchange and get very precious connections with some amazing people...
All my gratitude and special thanks to Robert... And I owe many thanks too to Tommy, Malanga, Simone, Talia, and Charlie for being such good caring friends, even for a too short priod of time!

We are trying to reccommend Vela to our friends, and were slightly disappointed that there seemed to be a lack of STAFF photos on the website (particularly Tommy, Roberto, and Malanga). Other than that, we had an AWESOME time and loved the beach...and by beach we mean Tommy. By the way, our best friend is coming down (per our glorious recommendation of your wonderful establishment) and she wants to be your friend too. Her name is Caitlin (she's the sexy one).

Great.

Well, good times had by all.

Sincerely,
Ashley and Ainsley
(Frank and Terri probably would say hi too if we had told them we were sending this. By the way, Frank got new glasses)

Eight weeks after comming home after two weeks in Cabarete the memories are still clear and strong. All the crew at the vela center THANK YOU for being you, the best of the best, from great service to fun friends. The gear och free clinics every day was perfekt to learn some more of things that I thougt I knew... Right now we´re saving as much as we can so we can come back as soon as possible. See you all i februari!

Wow - that's all I can say about my recent trip to Cabarete!! Thanks to Jens and his wonderful staff! "T" "A" "S" "S" "M" &"F" Many thanks to all of you. Although I had a couple of rain days, the windsurfing was amazing and the beach atmosphere during the day and night cannot be beat!!! I also enjoyed the casle club dinner. I also had a great opportunity to meet wonderful people - Fur, Tom and so many others. See you all next year! Let's go in June!!! I stayed at the Velero and enjoyed this top quality beach Hotel!
Thanks and see you all next Summer.

I had a great couple of days in Cabarete. Surfed every morning with chest to head high sets. Then around 1:00pm after lunch the wind started to pick up. I usually started off on a 6.2 and ended the day on a 5.7 wave sail. Fun waves and wind, and a great staff with lots of smiling faces. Thanks for a great time.

In spite of a high pressure system sitting in the Caribbean for most of our week, we had a wonderful vacation in Cabarete. The staff at Vela was awesome, as was the equipment and facilities. We did get some good sailing in later in the week, but the whole atmosphere in Cabarete more than made up for the lack of wind. The restaurants on the beach at night with the lights in the palm trees was just magical, and there was a large range of tastes and prices. We stayed at Palm Beach condos, some of the finest accomodations we have stayed with anywhere. We can not wait to come back next year!

Sorry it's late in coming but a big thanks to Jens, Mark, Tulip and the crew for an excellent Christmas & New Year holiday. Windsurfing conditions were excellent, it was just the thing Darren & I needed to progress further, even more taxing wave conditions. Barbecues were delicious and excellent value for money and company great. Also the trips out and Tulips funny stories, hope Mark has recovered from his New Years Day Jaunt! In fact, I have just talked some friends from my local windsurf club to visit this year.

I have travelled around the world for the past 5 years as a Professional

Windsurf Photographer. I also windsurf when I have the chance. I can honestly say that Cabarete is one of my favorite places! The sailing conditions including good waves, the incredibly cool staff at Vela, great restaurants, bars & discos, the friendliest atmosphere and fun people I have ever been around; are all part of what I love about the Dominican Republic. --

I had a blast down there last summer in Caberate. The staff at Vela were really nice, and the wind was great. I have to say that having a job down there seems really inviting from the hussle and bussle here in the states, but then I would not have as great of a place to look forward to going on vacation to, would I? Hats off to all of you for showing me the best time I have ever had.
David - USA

Cabarete is an excellent windsurf desination, but we must not forget about the surf. I travel to the Dominican once a year with my family and truly enjoy the waves. --Jeremy Wilson, Santa Cruz, CA (jwilson@cruzio.com)

--France Roy of Quebec (france.roy/padm/le@assnat.qc.ca)

My name is Todd Sears and I recently spent just short of a week in Cabarete. The unthinkable happened to me while in Cabarete, I got totally skunked. No wind at all. But I am writing this note to say thanks and express what a good time I had. Due to the friendly staff at Vela, (and the Cuba Libre's don't hurt), my week was actually pretty fun. I can't even imagine how great it would have been if I actually got to sail. Keep up the good work. I feel I got a great deal for my money, and I will definitely be back next Winter. In particular, it is people like Jens and Lu that make this place work. They both helped guests to feel extremely welcome and they are assets to the team. Give em both a raise. If I get skunked again next year, I might not feel the same, but for now, I am a happy customer and wanted to let you know.

Enough has probably been said about how good the sailing can be in Cabarete, what about the resort? This is one of the few carribean windsurfing destinations which has a good night life, good beach atmosphere, and good restaurants but there is one criticism. the main road runs right through the heart of the resort. My advice would be to make sure your accomodation is away from this road. We've been to Cabarete twice and will go again. -- Laurence Robinson of London England (laurencerobinson@msn.com) 1/98

"Flat water, wave sailing, great accommodations...Cabarete is as good as you've heard, maybe better." -- Eric Sanford of
