Windsurf Lessons

Cabarete has long been a hot-spot for windsurfing, and for many good reasons. Our team of talented and trained instructors are ready to help you work on any skills you hope to master, from carving-jibes to down-the-line wave-sailing with confidence, or even all the basics starting with an up-haul. Note that conditions over the winter months can be challenging for beginners and that a strong waterstart is a recommended skill, due to increased swell and chop inside the bay.

Free Windsurf Clinics

These clinics are included in your vacation and are given 6 days per week, Monday through Friday, at 12:30 pm. The topics covered vary according to guest needs and requests can range from rigging to jibing to looping. At least one day per week instructors will also set up a video camera in a designated area and tape students sailing, followed by a critique that afternoon. Footage will be shown at the Saturday night BBQ.

Beginner Lessons

If you are pre-booked on our discounted beginner package, you will have use of our novice equipment and receive one free beginner lesson that covers basic sailing skills. Additional beginner lessons can be purchased on-site. A two-hour lesson costs $50. A 3-day package costs $140.

Advanced Lessons

Private lessons are available to cover any topics desired from beach starting to back-looping. The purpose of the private lesson option is to give you more individualized instruction. Below is a list of common private lesson topics. Private lessons cost $45 per hour. Typically scheduled in the afternoon. Dialing in your gear, Pivot Jibe, Hook and foot / how to get on a plane, Carving Jibe; Sailing fast when underpowered, Freestyle, Wave Riding ... ANYTHING we can do we can try to teach!

Vela Kids Camps

Sure, you could probably show your kids all there is to know about windsurfing, but some things are best left to the pros. Learning our favorite sport can be a challenge, and getting a positive start from the beginning is THE BEST way to ensure that anyone - including your kids - will want to continue learning. Vela's instructors are prepared to help you get your kids hooked, though we can't promise that they will be the ones begging for next year's windsurf vacation ... yet!

Cabarete is an incredible place for families with kids. There are many activities to keep your kids entertained. For the smallest windsurfers, late spring and summer offer the best conditions. At Vela Windsurf Resort Cabarete, FUN is guaranteed! Spend a week with our instructor and enjoy the pleasure of learning to windsurf, kayaking, boogie board, beach volleyball, and making friends from all over the world! We use the best performance gear available for little hands including the NP One and Experience sails. Includes lunch each day.

For kids from 6 to 10 years of age. Kids must be strong swimers.

Schedule: The camps are Monday to Saturday, 10am to 1.30pm.
