In the beginning a lil summary of the january.
The month started with perfect surf- and SUP conditions for days, followed by 19 windy days, almost in a row. The tradewinds keep on holding on. Forecast looks better day by day. :)

We had some great early morning surf session at playa encuentro, the surf beach located just a few km west of cabarete. Nice way to start in the day.

Aloha to everyone!

Your trustworthy windreporter Norman is back in town to hook you up with some news during the winter. After windy christmas days with huge swell the new year started calmer with a lot of perfect StandUpPaddle days. Means glassy 5 to 8 feet waves on da reef. 

Lately the trade winds kicked in again and supposed to hold on for the next days, hopefully weeks. Because of the small swell we enjoyed great flatwater freestyle and slalom conditions in the inside. Our wave-lovers still could rip a couple of turns out on da reef. Thank god we have quad fin boards! :)

This march doesn't want to kick in as good as the beginning of the year. Which means a bit less wind and bigger sails from 5.6qm to 8.2qm. At least we have flatwater to enjoy due to the lighter wind.

Recently the wind has been a bit lighter which means sails around 6qm-8qm. Good fun as well is taking the SUP boards with a windsurfsail in the waves. Doesn't need much wind to play around in the gentel reef waves.

 Back on the internet after a lot of days on the water. The first two february weeks have been amazing for sailing the smaller kit. The last days the wind was a bit lighter which is perfect for all the families staying with us. Kids lessons with a big succes and a lots of fun!!

 The last days have been in blast in Cabarete! The wind machine worked everyday in combination with sunny 85F. Sails between 4.0qm and 5.5qm have been the perfect choice for the last days. Because the waves on the reef are recently really good as well, we've had some bigger StandUpPaddle group lessons in the morning. Starting the day with the first lights and ending the day with the last lights - always with a huge smile!! THATS CABARETE!

 January was fantastic - February holds on!

The last days everyone could get on the water. We had perfect flatwater and light winds in the morning which equals fast learning for first-timer and improver. Our instructors were busy giving beginner lessons day by day. The afternoons were good for blasting with slightly bigger sails. The swell is quite small (around 3-5 foot) in the moment which is good for first-timer in the wave. In total, lot's of fun for everyone.

We had another great week of windsurfing here in Cabarete. Yesterday, the day of the days. Sailing with 4.7qm² and nice headhigh waves on da reef. At the end of the day a quote of one of our guest: "I travelled so many different places on the planet and after that session I have to say, one good day in Cabarete equals 20 days at other places! "

The wind came and decided to stay. More then a week now already consistent wind and nice waves for a-class windsurfing!!

Now it´s time to trust the locals who say, if the wind starts to blow mid january, it´s gonna blow the whole spring till summer. We all hope so and keep on smiling after lot´s of great sailing days this year in Cabarete!

the wind came days ago and decided to stay!!!
Sails as usal around 5 qm² and on the reef a nice 2 meter wave - the perfect combination.

Just sad that the windreporter lost his camera today in the ocean with lot´s of actionpicture on. arrrr..pictures will follow soon..the wind will stay for weeks now, so lot´s of time to shoot more.

StandUpPaddle - the fastest growing sport, as well in Cabarete!!
Everybody is taking advantage of the beautiful, glassy and clean mornings. We have been on the water in groups almost the whole last week. From flatwater to wavesurfing and now new in the program Yoga for SUP. Audrey Meyer, the manager of the Dare2Fly kitschool in Cabarete, is not only putting all her passion and motivation in kitesurfing but also in Yoga4SUP. This way she is bringing the people to the sport while combining two great parts. Equals a perfect body workout and smiling faces.

Because wind and waves didnt matched as good as last days for windsurfing we decided to go on an adventure SUP tour in the national park el choco just across the street from Vela. Really nice mangrove- and palmgardens you go through. If you are lucky, like we have been today, you can catch some fish as well.

After a really delicious BBQ and a great party night in VoyVoy yesterday we started the year 2011 with windsurfing..sails around 5qm..smiling faces!

Could go on like this...

 We all enjoyed sunny and peaceful xmas days on the beachside of life. Nice to see lots of families around during this time. The parents are having there blast with bigger sails while the childreen are playing with the boggies or trying there best on the windsurfboard.
Beside the sportive activities everybody just enjoyed the sunshine and 80`F. Sunbathing at its best!

We hope you guys all over the world enjoy nice christmas days like we do.

Yesterday was a really nice windsurf day. The wind stayed all day long for sails from 5qm² up to 6qm². Today the wind wasn´t as strong as yesterday but we still had fun. The kids had fun with the boggie´s while the parents practiced Stand Up Paddle boarding, Kayaking and light wind freestyle. As well some guys where brave enough to try there first steps on the surfboard.

Christmas time is pretty busy in good old Cabarete. Lots of things going on for the whole family. On the cabarete beach expo this weekend you can check and try all the new 2011 surf, SUP and Kite gear. As well the wind is back for sails around 5qm² which makes everybody smiling!!

 We could not wait to set up the first new boards. Singlefin, Twinser, Thruster, Quad - from wave to slalom equipment. as well brandnew SUP boards in every kinds and sizes. we all cant wait to take the stuff on the water!!

Christmas time brings a lot of presents in Cabarete. Means for us, a huge delivery of 2011 stuff. We were busy preparing everything the last days that all the stuff is ready for action the next days.

We all cant wait to take the new toys on the water.

The wind is not as strong as usual in these days but the good thing about Cabarete is the great variety of watersports. If the water is glassy the surf is perfect. We go every morning for a nice surf session to playa encuentro just 5min. away from Cabarete. In good coorporation with the surf schools a pick-up service for our guests is always possible.

the wind didnt show up today so people entertained them selfs with stand up paddle boarding on da reef and volleyball comps on da playa.

After all the exhausting days on the water we organized today a nice movie sundowner in VoyVoy bar. The premiere of  "the windsurf movie 2" for everyone. In combination with a cold beer or mojito a succesful evening.

glassy morning, windy afternoon

the weather is stabilised and the normal windsystem is working.
means in the morning we join perfect surf and SUP conditions and from lunch time on the wind is blowing till sunset. Today we had nice flatwater in the inside of the bay, perfect for freeriding and slalom blasting and the waverider ripped 2 up to 3 meter waves on the outer reef.

Kitebeach was busy as well - another awesome sunset sesh day for everyone!

The forecast looks good for the next days, our clients are happy.
Cabarete during the thanksgiving days seems to be the "place to be" !

it's been a while since you gotten some updates from good old Cabarete ! Wind had been on the slow side the last 2 weeks , but the Surf and Sup boarding condition had been awesome . As well of course beginner windsurfers had their blast .

Several days of great weather. With blue skies and turquoise ocean and wind wind wind.

Closing day of the Cabarete Classic, of which Vela Cabarete were once again proud to be one of the sponsors.

Congratulations to local windsurf legend Pablito Guzman for pulling together another event, and to all the competitors, assistants and sponsors for their participation.

As usual for Cabarete delivered excellent conditions for the event with all classes of slalom, a 25mile downwind race and Freestyle being completed.

Today saw the first day of racing at this years Cabarete Classic.  The event kicked off with some hotly contested slalom with an unseasonally large swell bringing sizeable waves to the reef making gybing around the outer mark interesting to say the least.

Of course most of our guests come for the excellent windsurfing, kiteing, surfing and S.U.P conditions. But the Dom Rep offers much more besides.. for example a brief trip through the stunning beautiful local countryside to the Blue Moon restaurant located high in the surrounding hills. A truly exotic experience with fine Indian/Caribbean fusion cuisine served on banana leaf plates. Always a great atmosphere and memorable evening.

After a great start to May with plenty days sailing in the solid afternoon trades , we have had a few days of calm.

The great thing about Cabarete tho' is that with its famous reef, it remains SUPerb, with plenty of clean glassy uncrowded waves to be enjoyed on one of our numerous Stand Up Paddleboards..

 Hi Sailors ,

we had some wicked conditions down here with  really strong winds over the last 2 weeks , on  one day the  the guys had to go down to 4.2-4.7 m sails, and the girls all the way down to 3.5m , the wind-meter showing 34kn , waves being 6- 8ft faces on the reef. Yeah Life is good in Cabarete .....

Now the last 3 days we had Semana Santa Beach Parties up and down the main beach of Cabarete  , music blasting full volume all day and night, this morning at 8 am still going hundreds still dancing to Batchata and Reggaton .

Stand UP Paddle  and Surf Conditions also had been great in Cabarete especially at  Kitebeach , which is turning into the new SUP area ,as there are perfect waves to be ridden close to the beach right in front of the Agualina Kite Resort , so you can SUP or surf in the morning of your backyard  , than have a great lunch at Lolo's restaurant at the Dare2Fly school ,  Kite all afternoon , and all this with out ever having to drive anywhere  , and in case you still have some energy left you can join Audrey's Spinning class or Plyometric workout at MiGym from 6pm-7pm . Cabarete offers  perfect activities for people looking for a fun and sportif vacation .

Audrey from the Vela Windsurf / Dare2Fly Kiteboarding School in Cabarete with a special report...

Awesome early surfing and SUP boarding with glassy waves. And if life could not get better, we had a Humpback whale and his calf passing by and showing off close by from us. What a show!!! In fact, each January through March, more than 10,000 incredible Humpback whales of the North Atlantic population, return to the waters surrounding the DR to mate and breed.

We were stocked to see those two whales so close from us! Come on down and enjoy this amazing place with us!

after some days with no wind and some cold wind out of the north , we are back on track with white caps in the bay and the first guests planning on 6.5 m sails.

Even so there was not much wind Cabarete had some perfect Surf and Stand Up Paddle Boarding conditions over the last week .  Stand Up Paddle Boarding is catching on , as Cabarete as well Cabarete's Kite Beach offer some awesome waves on the Reef  , big swell on the outside  and flat water on the inside . At Dare2Fly you find a nice collection of SUP Boards ranging from 10 ft-1 2' 6" ,here at Vela we offer SUP's from 9 ft  to 12'6".

Forecast for the coming days looks great , we should be able to use small wave gear , looking forward to get some more time on the JP Quad Fin 82 , yeeehhhhhaaaaa.

it's about time to give you an update from Cabarete. january had been a mixed month with lot's of rain to begin with as well as some really windy days , one day we had 34 kn + and huge swell . As well did we get one of the biggest days ever with easy mast and a half high+ on the reef. Only a few ventured to the outside to ride some massive swell . 

Our SUP Boards are getting a good use in the morning as Cabarete offers calm mornings with light wind for the beginner but as well great waves on the reef to be caught with our Starboard SUP's in sizes from 9'0" - 12'6" . Some even dare to do some downwinders to Kitebeach or even further to Playa Encuentro .

Cabarete will host the 8th Masteroftheocean competition from the 23rd of feb to the 1st of March , at the moment we are hosting the Kiteboarding4Kids event , and next week end we will have a surf competition at Playa Encuentro the best surf spot in the Dominican republic. 

So in case you want to join us for the endless summer , give our Vela Office in Hood River a call and make a reservation.

here some update from Cabarete , we had a really great fall with good winds all the way to beginning of November , than the wind stayed light for 2 weeks , but at the same time we had awesome beginner windsurf conditions and great waves at Playa Encuentro for Surfing and SUP- Boarding. Since a week the wind is back and we had pretty much every day winds in the 18- 22 kn range

The SUP boarding is catching on in Cabarete , and we see many people early in the morning riding waves on the Cabarete Reef or doing downwind runs from Cabarete to Kitebeach or further down the coast .

The new 2010 Toys will arrive this tuesday , so we have an early X-mas here at velacabarete.

 Hola Sailors,

it's about time to give you an update from Cabarete. Well we had a really great summer with lots of wind and waves. Specially the waves had been outstanding this summer with head high conditions pretty much all summer long. Wind was blowing 85 % off the time for windsurfing in the last 3 month and 95% off the time for Kite boarding . Wave surfing at Playa Encuentro was possible every single day this summer , Cabarete the perfect playground for all the water sports there is , oh yeah not to forget the SUP boarding was also great , early in the morning. 

September so far we had wind every day in the 18kn-20kn range and hardly anybody on the water and in the waves , so plenty of space to do all those tricks and turns without having to worry to hit anybody . 

We just started with our special double your days , so if you wanna have some fun for a bargin hurry up and ring our office in Hood River to book your Cabarete trip this fall.

wind,wind and more wind, since my last report it has been windy pretty much everyday. Average between 18-24kn. Waves on the reef were awesome the last 3-4 days .

It all looks like we will have a great summer with wind everyday , plus some great events coming up like the Butterfly effect for girls and than right after we have the Pablito Guzman Cabarete Classic happening with competitors from all over the world.

The Kids Camp will start as well soon , so we having a lot of fun ahead of us with many regulars on the reservation list.

I guess it's about time to update you from what has been happening down here.

Well we had a awesome April with 24 sailable days, and so far we having a great may with lots off days in the 20+ kn range. Some rain the last couple of days, but mostly towards the end of the day or early in the morning.

Waves been great too for this time of the year.

Oh yeah one really "stupid thing" is happening at VoyVoy since a couple of days, can you imagine they selling Mojito Pitchers for 200 Rd (5.7 $) from seven till eleven, great way to hang and chill after a great day on Da water here in Da Paradise .

Hola Sailors, 

Last Friday we had  Mast and a half high to almost double mast high waves on the Reef and some 22kn of winds , which gave us one of the best wavesailing days since many years . Saturday and sunday were still big with mast high waves and 22-25kn of wind , but a bit more user friendly for everybody.

Than this week so far wind every day in the 20+ kn range and still head high waves made Cabarete bay to a beautiful pay ground for all the windsurfers and Kitesurfer.

Well , and the forecast has no changes , wind wind and more wind for the days to come, the only thing we need is some more guests for all those nice 2009 JP / Starboard and Tabou Boards here at the Center.

Semana Santa is starting this week , tons of locals on the beach , but hey ,we still can go sailing , so all good here in Cabarete.

guess it's about time to update our wind report . We had a great start with good wind and waves. really good in the middle of march with plenty of strong windy days for some small waveboards and the new 2009 wave sails with our skinny masts.
Stand Up Paddling has been the hit so far this year .
VoyVoybar had some great evenings with the masteroftheocean closing ceremony .Dare2fly guests had plenty of water time in March with almost all the days kiteable at Cabarete Kitebeach .
Only 2 weeks left till Semana Santa starts here with a lot of crazy parties on the beach.

well February started with some mixed weather , but now we have some great conditions especially last week we had some awesome wave riding days in 12-15 ft swell straight out of the north with some 18-22kn of wind . Meanwhile the swell is smaller but the wind stayed and we had pretty much every single day wind since the 10th . whaaaat's uppp?

We had some mixed weather so far with some very rainy , but also very windy and wavy days here in Cabarete. Kiting at Dare2Fly is always happening , and the Dare2Fly restaurant with it's new chef LOLO from Belgium is running great.

VoyVoy was going off with some great live gig last wednesday as well the Karaokee and lady's night is doing really strong . Plenty of party's all the time in Cabarete as you can read . As is traditional in January, Cabarete experienced a mixed bag of conditions to kick off the new year. Despite frequent interruptions to the trade wind, some 50% of the days provided planing conditions albeit sometimes only for an hour or so...
Some days saw strong north winds with a chilly (?) 23degC and challenging but fun sailing and a rare opportunity for some port tack jumping! The recent days have seen a return to classic Cabarete with the afternoon wind machine kicking in to give good starboard riding and some clean logo high waves on the reef.. It bodes well for February often the best month of the year for the combination of wind and waves...

Off the water, the evening bar "Voy Voy" continues to rock with Mondays (Karioke) , Wednesdays (live music) and Thursdays (Ladies night) drawing the crowds making Voy Voy THE place to be and be seen on the beach. Also from Voy Voy is the launch of their new "traditional dominican menu" ... Great food and competetive prices.. A must try for all guests.

So, plenty of reasons to come... See you here soon.

Hope all of you had a nice X-mas . Here we had an awesome Dominican X-mas Buffet with lots of food and Presidente's of course . Santa brought 2 container loads of 2009 Windsurf and Kitesurf gear . So the boys are busy  getting it all ready , since yesterday the new 2009 Starboards are on Da water and the JP boards will be in the fleet from the first of January . Dare2Fly has already the new 2009 Cabrinha IDS  Kites available . The new sails look really cool and now the wave sails are rigged on X-Combat NP Skinny Masts .

The bar and Kitchen stuff is getting ready for the huge BBQ for New Year's eve and a big party to celeprate the arrival of another windy year here in Cabarete. So if you want to  play with us on the new Toy's, hurry on down ,to good old Cabarete .
