HIHO

Race Class

The Highland Spring HIHO offers two levels of windsurf racing classes: Techno 2 and Open.

Techno 2 Class

This is a strict one design division where all racers use the BIC Techno 2 283. The 148 liter board is ideal for inter-island racing in our Summer trade wind weather. Techno 2 racers may use any fin they like and any three sails, though the most common is to use the available rentals on Neil Pryde Hellcat and V8 sails.

Racers will compete on between 7-9 races in the British Virgin Islands. Racing starts on smaller courses in the North Sound, then longer inter-island legs by day 2. Techno 2 racers will cover about 100-miles during their 6-days of competition.

Finishing & Results

Beach finishes are a HIHO Exclusive and see competitors running up the beach to tag a mast flying a flag. Boat finishes may also be used, but it is most common to end with a mad-dash from the shore towards the flag.

Division & Scoring

Competitors will be scored together but trophies will be awarded based on separate categories. Trophies will be awarded to the top 3-5 finishers in each category, including:

1. Juniors (<18)

2. Men's (18-34)

3. Master's (35-44)

4. Grand Masters (45-54)

5. Super Masters (55+)

6. Women's (all ages).

Open Class

Targeting a broader racing group, this class allows racers to compete on any equipment. On some races Open class will start separately, but on others- like the long downwind races- they will start with the Techno class.

Finishing & Results

Open racers compete together with trophies being awarded to the top 5 racers. A fleet of 5-racers competing aboard a like board constitutes a "class". We shall endeavor to offer any class competing in the Open Class it's own trophies.

The Races

Racers may only use one board for the duration of the event, with the exception being if the board they are using is damaged beyond immediate repair. Racers may only use 3 sails in the event. Sails must carry all Highland Spring HIHO sponsor logos.

Race lengths:
Races will be between 4 and 25 miles (8-48km), though organizers reserve the option to run races of any length.

Starts & finishes:
On-water starts. Races will terminate on the beach. Beach finishes mean you sail to the beach and run to touch a flag. Organizers may also employ boat on-water finishes behind a boat.

Courses:
Some windward work; mostly reaches. Please note that we sail amongst reefs and there may be fin damage.

Sponsorship:
There are no restrictions on sponsorship. Racers bringing their own sails will have to position the Highland Spring and Red Stripe sponsor logos (and any other sponsor logos we confirm) on their sails and always compete wearing the event race jersey.
