  Big december Swells have been rolling into the Bay of Jeri!

So, Jericoacoara, what to say? Ofcourse it is windy with anything bigger than 5.0 gathering dust in the sail rack! Due to the full moon and the tidal activity it brings, the swell has been perfect in the early afternoon for jumps and beginners wave riding, then as the tide has been filling into the bay, the surfers and wave riders take to the water to revel in the conditions on offer. The kiters are also kept happy in the mornings with the calmer winds; although too many caiprinhas at night can affect how many kiters we see out before 11am!

Lots to do if your worn out through too much time on the water, what with Aftersun parties, movie nights, free windsurf clinics, video review sessions; its all on offer here at Vela Jericoacoara!

It's been a long time we did not give you an update about the sailing conditions here. Sorry about that guys! But, basically nothing change the wind is still super consistent and present every single day.

Since August, the most used sail is the 4.2 and the average board is arround 85l

Everyday after your session, while the sun is going down in the bay, this  a the place to chill, drink a caipirinha or meet other windsurfers and participate to our Evening shows. Video Clinic, pictures slideshow, live music. cinema, BBQ... Check the program bellow:

Wondering what to do each night? Make sure to fit in some events at the Vela center with our evening shows every day (except Sunday) after sunset.

This is a chance to improve your windsurf technique while drinking a caipirinha. Our instructors explain basic and moves on the big cinema screen. Highly recommended.

Since now it’s been one full year that the trade winds that built our reputation did not stop… Although a low season exists from Feb to June, it was still blowing consistently and steadily nearly every day at this time. The beginning of 2010 was an awesome wind surprise! Ad to this unusual phenomena, the fact that it was the wavy period of the year, it resulted one of the best wave riding sessions of the season, for the very few lucky windsurfers present.

This singular wind phenomenon that occurs in 201 was a surprisingly long windy period with almost no rain season. Trying to find answers, we investigated at the “Fundação Cearense de Meteorologia e Recursos Hídricos”, the climatology organization of the state of Ceara . We found out weather forecasts showing that the highest probability of rainfall was below average in the state in 2010. According to the specialists, the main factor was the role of El Niño. They noticed that the surface of the equatorial Pacific Ocean was still at a higher temperature than the normal, which characterizes the phenomenon. This climate pattern that occurs on average every five years brings changes in ocean currents and upwelling that induce modifications in surface temperature of the sea. Then, it affects the rainfalls that directly alter the strength of trade winds. To make it simple it means that without rainfall at this time, the wind doesn’t stop.

Indeed, the happy ending is that our interviewers’ conclusions were a stronger possibility to have wind earlier and which stops later in 2010-2011

Great month of April, still windy and almost no-one sailing. 400 sails, 200 boards, 30 staff, a daily average of 20 knots and 1 lucky client, our unique windsurfer who bets on Jeri during the "low season".

If Jeri is definitely known as one of the best windsurf spots on earth, did you know it was also a dam good surf spots? On Malhada beach the locals are surfing all the year with their shortboards a beachbreak wave. The waves broken in front of the club (a pointbreak) are longer and softer. Surfers use mostly longboards there. 

Well, this month we had a lot of fun in the water with a swell reaching 2,20 meters. Among other it was a chance to see Fabio, the director of the club, with his favourite toy of the moment, the SUP, Marine our surf teacher who surely took the biggest wave or Raimundo and Filho (windsurf team) who did not miss one wave with their windsurfboards without straps and with hand made leash fixed for the occasion.

ClubVentos has surfboards and SUP for those who wish to try to surf the waves without a sail. It´s fun, and also super easy and safe, since all bottom is sand, and there are no rocks.

We are sorry for not having been so present online at the end of 2009 and beginning of 2010.

Today Club Ventos hosted the Big Jeri Premiere of Four Dimensions movie and the entire town was waiting for it! 200-300 people joined. Numbers of clients, local people, windsurfers and pro, were presents to discover one of the best windsurfing action movies of the year and it was hard to get a seat if you were not there 1 hour before the start. It felt really cool as Jeri an Icarai were the place where has been filmed the last section of the movie.  People really loved it and gave great feedback which was maybe also the reason why the night ended in a massive Halloween Party.

About the conditions... the wave increased really. We had really nice wave sessions. We could see some locals guys as Ian Mouro (BRA 85) doing nice double fowards! Even early the mornig or at sunset time the spot is perfect for surfing or doing some SUP.

More than half of October... Time to give more news.

Everything is fine in our little paradise of Jericoacoara. The conditions are present erveryday of this month. You could go windsurfing every single day of October most of the time using 4.7. Today for example we recommend 5.0 (80-90kgs) 4.2 - 4.7 (70-80kgs) 4.0 - 4.2 (60-70-kgs) and less than 4.2 (<60kgs).

The last full moon bring us the first really consistant and high waves. We saw some good waveriders made arround 6 bottoms on 2m waves! Great to have strong wind and bigger wave. The level increased a lot on the spot as many people arrived for October and November. It is really great to watch all types of moves on the water when you are sailing... On the earth the atmosphere is very friendly all together and the nightlife still very animated.

Do I have to mention something about the sun, the palm trees, the sandy beach and dunes, the lagoons that surround us

September was really a great month...

Our clients use for the great majority of them the 4.5 sail and sometimes 4.2 as the wind got really stonger. At low tide this is still a really good spot for freestyle or practicing your jibes near the beach. At high tide we had some good days with a small wave at the point.

The lucky clients of the end of September and begining of October are the first who could use the brand new 2010 JP and Starboard boards that we have just received.

Moreover, the atmosphere at the ClubVentos is really great with the evening shows... Every day at sunset time different shows are presented (Surf TV, Windsurfing or cinema movies on our big screen, traditional dance classes, Live Music and Windsurfing Clinics)

The conditions are still good here and getting better and better. The ones who could not wait for some waves were going to the Malahada beach a little more upwind to ride the first waves of the season.

In July, the wind started to blow stronger and could offer us two sessions a day, the best days.

This was the early beginning of the high season.

The wind began to blow more than 15 days a month around the 15 – 20 knots.

May was lightly better than the previous month and we can say that it was the end of the low season...

The wave surfing month!

As if the mother nature wants us to take a small rest before the beginning of the new windy season, April is the “less windy month” with around 20% of days stronger than 4 Beaufort wind force. The less strong wind offered us really good surfing sessions with dreaming glassy waves but we still kept our 5.5 ready for some windsurfing afternoon!

Here we are again with fresh news from our paradise!

I have to tell you: we are blessed! Low season had begin, however we had many windy and wavy days till now! During the carnival,when the rain gave a break, we had happy people at the water with their 5.0 all day long. And for surfing....is just PERFECT! good swell coming, waves up to 1,5 - good for beginners and also for the pros. And...on the middle of the surfers, we found many paddling! the SUP are just great! Everybody having fun!!

Our restaurant is closed on mondays but during the other days, is going very well...we changed the menu a little bit, including some delicious and economic dishes so what else do you need? saving money, eating a delicious food with the best view of Jericoacoara after a good surf session at water!

And...just to add to our report, our surfshop now is closed after a good season of success! Now, we are starting to prepar our new collection for the next season so everybody can be well dressed-up in 2009!

Hello everybody!

Our wind season is pratically at the end, however January always means good days, such as 5.3 - 5.7 on the afternoon session.

January has been a great month, with the best waves of the year! In a swell day...oohh...PERFECT RIDING!

And just to add, we are having lots of fun with the NEW TOYS: the SUP and gemini board don't get dry at the rack. Everyday at the water, all the time!

Now, most of our staff left for their vacation as we are facing low season, and the ones whom stayed are already working hard for the next 2009 season, which promisses to be THE YEAR.
